The location

Coolham Road lies on the north-east edge of West Chiltington, within 2-3 miles of the old village; and of Coolham and Thakeham.  The busy village of Storrington is within a short drive, with excellent local shops and traders for everyday needs, as well as 4 banks, a Post Office and a large Waitrose store (John Lewis collection point). 

Billingshurst is about 5 miles, also with shops and a main line rail service (London Victoria in 65 minutes).  The A272 & A24 are accessible, with links to major road networks and London Gatwick is about 40 minutes by car.  Village inns & restaurants include the White Lion at  Thakeham and the Countryman Inn at Shipley.  

 

The old market town of Horsham is about 7 miles to the north, which together with Brighton, Chichester & Horsham, has the top High Street shopping names and hosts theatre productions, plus a variety of cultural events & exhibitions. 

 

Country walks abound and sports enthusiasts can enjoy golf at West Sussex Golf Club and Slinfold. There is horse racing and the renowned Festival of Speed & Revival motor sports at Goodwood, with show- jumping at Hickstead, and sailing out of Chichester and other South Coast harbours. 

Schools nearby in both state and private sector include The Weald, Steyning Grammar, Windlesham House, Lancing College, Christ's 

Hospital and Hurstpierpoint.

 

Parsons Cottage

A wall plaque dates this charming detached cottage back to 1783 and the owners have an interesting history file on its origins, including "Sunday outing" drivers in the 1930's stopping to see Gypsy caravans on display that were restored and painted in one of the barns.  Later enlargement of the cottage now makes it a practical, updated and comfortable home, set in beautiful gardens of about an acre.
