East Street



Petworth is a historic and picturesque old market town within the South Downs National Park. Petworth House dominates the town with its beautiful 750 acres of parkland designed by Capability Brown.  In the Old High Street, Market Square and quaint side streets will be found a good selection of independent shops & traders, as well as the interesting selection of antique shops, coffee houses and restaurants. The annual Petworth music and  literary festivals are attended from far & wide and there are wonderful country walks, including the beautiful Shimmings Valley nearby. Independent & state schools are accessible.  


Guildford, Midhurst & Haslemere are accessible, as is the world renowned Cowdray Park Polo Ground; and Cowdray Golf Club.  Glorious Goodwood is home to horseracing and the renowned Festival of Speed & Revival motorsport events. There is sailing from Chichester & Littlehampton harbours. 


The nearest rail station is Haslemere, on the Waterloo line.  Chichester & Brighton have top High Street shops; and host a variety of theatre productions & cultural events.


The property

At the southern end of East Street, Stringers Hall spans the corner of East Street and a walled private drive to the north of Daintrey House.  


For sale for the first time since the 1900’s, this is a unique opportunity to acquire a landmark property (Grade II* Listed) in the heart of the town, together with its separate walled garden.  Stringers Hall  is thought to have Tudor origins; later enlarged and re-faced possibly during the Queen Anne period.  The main elevation has twin semi-circular bay windows and faces south, enjoying panoramic views from the upper floors beyond Angel Street to the edge of the town and the South Downs on the horizon,
